Though we may sometimes feel that “the Gods must be crazy,” we can learn to harness luck in our lives by working with Jupiter. That way, when coke bottles fall out of the sky, we know what to do with them! Jupiter, as a benefic planet, enables us to dream big, to explore reality outside of our normal boundaries and to have hope. It also inspires us to embody our highest selves and to work towards the betterment of society.
Since Sagittarius rules the lovely planet of rings, themes such as higher education, the courts, cultures around the world and belief systems can also come into play when Jupiter zooms one of our houses. Though it is possible to overdo things when the planet of expansion and growth is around, it does tend to bring a measure of luck with it, so long as we are doing the work.
When Jupiter transits the 8th house, luck can touch our lives in a variety of fashions. The 8th house is a gateway to mysterious realms. It rules over matters of life and death and thus has a very spiritual connotation to it. Often, though not always, the death of a person can be seen in the 8th house and transits of Jupiter often play a role in this transition. It’s as if that spiritual part of ourself is crossing a great divide…and what lies on the other side of that divide allows us to touch the clouds of Heaven. In the process, we are reborn.
Because of the spiritual connection of this placement, Jupiter in the 8th can also greatly enhance psychic and intuitive gifts. Trusting your gut becomes a true source of “luck” because you have learned to listen to the calling of angels as well as your higher self. You are also blessed with the notion that no matter what happens in this life, everything will turn out well. Because you can see the bigger picture behind events, you know with full certainty that there is a divine plan.
Sometimes, people with Jupiter or Neptune in the 8th have an uncanny ability to communicate with those who have already passed. This placement also lends itself very well to anyone inclined to help people cross cataclysmic divides in their life be that dying, facing a serious illness, or surviving a divorce. Your grace and understanding of the mysteries of life and death enable you to comfort those in need. This, in turn, can bring you many soul rewards. In a fashion, you become a bridge that helps others to safely cross over.
When it comes to exploring Universal truths, psychological matters and the ability to transform life’s circumstances, the deeper you dive into the cosmic waters of the 8th house, the happier you will be. Counselors, spiritual teachers and psychiatrists are often graced with this placement. Trauma and crises somehow bring out the best in you, enabling you to help others when life gets stormy.
Out of body experiences and life after death events are other possible manifestations of this well-placed Jupiter. Meditation practice could truly help to expand your mind, your world view, or even allow you to briefly glimpse the other side. Though I don’t have an 8th house Jupiter, I have been fortunate to have had two brief out of body experiences, both of which were wonderful and happened spontaneously under hypnosis. In one event, I had the sensation of leaving my body and traveling rapidly through space. Soon I arrived at a brilliant, white, louvered door in the middle of nowhere…and that was cracked open. Sunshine was pouring through the opening. I whisked right up to the door to see what was behind it because it was so beckoning, but the second I arrived within peering distance a slight wind came up, blowing the door closed. To me, this is a perfect example of the “gateway” experience the 8th house often provides guests who enter her realms, only in some instances you are allowed to pass through the portal for a longer visit.
On a more mundane level, the 8th house also rules over other people’s money and inheritances so with Jupiter here, you could gain financially from a spouse or via a windfall from a dying relative. A measure of protection might also be afforded over your 401K, allowing you to increase, or at the very least, hang onto your savings. Likewise, loans from banks are also favored when Jupiter moves through the 8th.
Intimacy, sex and taboos are also ensconced behind the doors of the 8th house. With Jupiter here, you may feel compelled to explore these areas full-heartedly with a variety of partners. Sex, for you, could also be very transformative, allowing you to spiritually connect with a partner. Using tantric sex as a gateway to another realm is one example of the divine and lusty possibilities. Though it doesn’t always turn out this way, you could also find yourself married to a partner who likes to roam. Along with his or her vast fortune, you might also discover you have married into insatiable desires and your partner’s willingness to explore taboos (sometimes with others).
All this being said, an 8th house Jupiter should be considered a very lucky placement overall, unless otherwise aspected. If the Gods toss coke bottles at you with Jupiter here, you will surely understand the bigger picture. If the bottle conks you on the head, you will also realize that pain and suffering can be transmuted into a spiritual path that enables you to compassionately connect with others, while gracefully helping those closest to you cross whatever divide they are facing. It will also provide wisdom and the spirituality needed to overcome the difficult circumstances of your life as well.
